Traffic Control Officer Job in Palki, Lakshadweep

Lakshadweep Transport & Safety Services

Are you a friendly face who loves keeping things running smoothly? We are a local transportation hub located in Palki, Lakshadweep, looking for a committed Traffic Control Officer to join our tight‑knit team. If you enjoy working outdoors, love the island vibe and are ready to make a real difference in daily commuting, this role is for you.

What our day looks like

Every morning we set up our small traffic control booth near the main ferry landing. From 6:30 AM till late afternoon, the officer directs both vehicle and foot traffic, ensures safety of ferry boarders, and coordinates with local boat crews. The job isn’t just about yelling “stop” – you’ll be helping villagers, fishermen and tourists move safely while keeping the island’s narrow roads from getting jammed. We use digital signboards, reflective cones and a simple radio system that’s easy to use, but enough to keep everyone aligned.

Team and culture

Our staff is a family of five: a chief officer, two assistant traffic controllers, a maintenance worker, and the community liaison. We meet every month for a short debrief where we share ideas on improving safety and discuss any incident reports. We value open communication, respect for each other’s time, and a sense of humor – we know traffic can be a stressful job. The work environment is physically demanding but the camaraderie keeps spirits high.

Growth opportunities

On average, officers stay with us for 3‑4 years before moving into senior traffic control or safety compliance roles – we teach everything from first aid to basic engineering concepts. If you pick up our new weather‑alert mobile app or learn to use the GPS‑based traffic monitoring system, you’ll have a clear path to higher responsibilities and better pay.

Responsibilities in real terms

  • Direct vehicular and foot traffic at ferry landing and during market days.
  • Set up barriers, cones and warning chalk lines during peak tourist season.
  • Operate the 2-mile radio network to keep in touch with the marine deck crew.
  • Maintain 50 m of temporary signage and check it against the “traffic safety booklet” we publish every year.
  • Respond to accidents or crowding incidents, & initiate first‑aid if needed.
  • Update daily traffic logs and submit incident reports to the island admin office.

Tools and equipment

  • High‑visibility vest, reflective jackets and sturdy badges for identification.
  • Compact handheld radio (Model RM‑30).
  • Digital timer and paper logbook for recording peak arrival and departure times.
  • Solar‑powered LED signboard that displays “ROAD CLOSED” during emergencies.

Work environment

It’s a hybrid between office and field. You’ll spend mornings outside, walking between ferry pads and the local market; afternoons are usually spent back at a small, sun‑shaded office where you keep paperwork and finalise reports. The weather can be hot, but the light breeze off the sea keeps the heat manageable.

Why you’ll love it

Besides the thrill of seeing people move confidently, you’ll enjoy a 3‑hour commute each day (just a walk through the island’s peaceful lanes). The monthly salary is competitive for Lakshadweep – 22,000–30,000 INR – and includes a 15% bonus for safe completion of the season. We also provide a health‑check‑up once a year, continuous training vouchers, and a chance to travel for safety seminars every other year.

We’re excited to meet a new teammate who can share in the community feel while safeguarding the smooth flow of our island life.
