Barista – Cozy Café & Kitchen in Leh, Ladakh Job in Leh, Ladakh
The Chai & Coffee Corner
We’re The Chai & Coffee Corner, a 24‑hour community café tucked in the heart of Leh. Our mission is to create a warm, welcoming space where travelers and locals alike can unwind with a steaming cup of milk‑based brew and some simple homemade snacks. We’re on the lookout for a friendly, energetic Barista to join our small but lively team. If you love coffee, friendly conversation and want to learn the craft while earning a tidy salary, read on.
How We Work Day‑to‑Day
Our café opens at 07:00 and closes at 01:00. A typical shift is 8 hours, split 4‑hour shifts (morning, afternoon, evening). You’ll start by preparing the espresso machine, steaming milk, and grinding beans. We serve a range of beverages: classic espresso, cappuccino, latte, masala chai, and our signature “Ladakh Latte” (onion‑infused milk). After service, you’ll help with cleaning the front counter, restocking supplies, and a quick stroll out to the storage shed for a fresh batch of biscuits.
Team Culture
With a staff of four, we’re like a family. Friday “free‑talk” hours let us chat about anything from mount‑wind forecasts to the best dumri songs. We celebrate birthdays with a homemade cake and sing “Yo Yo” together. Everyone is encouraged to share ideas – if you think the cup should have a little snow‑flake design, tell us! Our shift leads are senior baristas who rotate leadership each week, giving everyone a chance to take charge.
Opportunities for Growth
We value learning: every month we bring a local café expert for a 2‑hour workshop on latte art, cold brew techniques, or the history of Ladakhi coffee milling. You’ll be given the time to experiment, then showcase your new skills the next day. Moreover, preferred candidates can pursue a certification in hospitality from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), which we’ll support financially.
Responsibilities (with Real Examples)
- Make at least 30 cups of espresso‑based drinks per shift, ensuring each cup meets our consistency standards.
- Serve 70‑100 customers per day, greeting them with a smile, a “Namaste” and a quick check on whether they’d like a spicy tea or plain milk.
- Keep the work area clean – wipe counter, sweep floor, and ensure the espresso machine is cleaned at the end of each shift.
- Track inventory: log fresh milk, sugar, tea leaves and spices when they’re low, and notify the manager before midnight to reorder.
- Assist in “Ladakh Latte” creation: warm milk, mix in a pinch of finely sliced onion (the local specialty), then stream milk through a steel‑fine filter.
Tools & Equipment
You’ll use an 18‑bar commercial espresso machine, a whole‑bean grinder, hand‑powered milk frother, and a local hand‑crafted stainless steel milk jug. Occasionally you’ll help with the small solar‑powered cooler that keeps our tea leaves fresh.
Environment
The café sits inside a renovated colonial bungalow – timber beams, high ceilings, and a skylight that lets the Himalayan light stream in. The shop is open 24/7; the barista station is a single polished oak counter that doubles as a place to share stories over a cup of coffee. The surrounding area is a cross of narrow streets, with traders selling fresh strawberries and a monastery chapel that’s a 15‑minute walk away.
If you’re passionate about coffee, enjoy serving locals and tourists, and want to grow in a friendly atmosphere, we can’t wait to meet you.
